ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION

guided tour  The Forest Service of Parnitha promotes environmental education in the basis of managing and protecting the National Park of Parnitha, in order to make the beauties of Parnitha known to the public. Two National Park Guides are hired seasonally each year, who guide schools and other groups to the mountain. The age of the participating children is taken into consideration, so that the appropriate paths will be chosen, along with the duration of the tour. The tour starts from the Forest Service of Parnitha at 9 a.m. each day except Sundays and ends at 1 p.m.

The procedure is the following: each interested must send an application to the Forest Service of Parnitha, where the number, the schoolgrade and the desirable date of the tour must be mentioned. The application shall be sent to the following fax number: 0030-2102434064. The Guide will then contact the interested school and arrange the tour. This includes:

- For Elementary schools, walk to a path without climbing for about 1 hour and following, environmental games. where children assimilate the values of nature.guided tour

- For Highschools, Lyceums and Environmental Groups , walk to a path of various difficulty, demonstration of the most important plants and vegetation units, briefing for the problems of the Park and conservation.

During the tour, the Guides distribute to the group members brochures with information about flora, fauna and recreation in the National Park. Finally, the guided tour is completed after filling-up questionnaires regarding the National Park of Parnitha.

Since 2001 and until 2005, 159 groups took guided tours in the National Park of Parnitha and the number of the participants reached 6.355. Analytically, the tour data are:
